Greetings all,
The BCDSA negotiations team has a proposed contract to present for a membership vote. I have attached the amended articles for your review. All changes are in bold. This will be discussed in detail at our emergency general membership meeting scheduled for tomorrow, June 12th, at 1500 hours.
- Article 13.5.4 and 13.5.5: Sick Leave
- This change defines good standing and changes the timeframe from those who have been on for two years to those who have been on for five years. The County was pushing to have this removed all together.
- Article 15.1.7- 15.1.9: Discipline
- This change puts caps on discipline and how long it can affect personnel for testing purposes. Currently there is no cap for discipline in the form of suspension or greater. As a note, testing for promotion already has a cap on how long discipline can be considered. This is specific to testing for specialty units.
- Article 25: Wages
- You will see a 3% raise across the board for all members.
- You will also see an FTO incentive increase.
- Article 26: Uniforms
- This change was already in place per the MOU.
- Article 32.5: Firearms Qualifications
- This change makes it so those who fail their firearm qualifications and must be placed on remedial training will not be placed on unpaid leave.
- Article 50: Terms of Agreement
- This new article clarifies the terms of the contract. It specifies the dates of the contract in one place and clarifies that opening negotiations must occur in March of each year, which simplifies the process. This contract states we can reopen negotiations on wages (Article 25) next year, but the remaining contract will not open again until March 2027 (2 years).
I look forward to discussing this tomorrow at the meeting. Feel free to comment here.
